All Safe After Sheriffs Stop Prison Runaway Everyone involved is safe after a 33-year-old Dane County jail inmate skipped out on Huber this morning, kidnapped his girlfriend and led police on a high speed chase from McFarland to the Illinois state line. Rock County Sheriff Robert Spoden says they tried to use road spikes to stop Eldon Weinda as he drove the wrong way down the interstate. Weinda came quietly after that. His girlfriend suffered several cuts and a bump to the head in the ordeal.
Baraboo Woman Dies In Highway Accident A Baraboo woman is dead after Dane County deputies say she slammed headlong into the side of a semi truck on highway 51 north of Madison last night. 51-year-old Kathy Endsley has ties to the DeForest area.
Cops Catch Man After Footchase Off Beltline A 24-year-old Madison man faces drug and weapons charges after leading police on a different sort of chase last night. Cops say Michael George was pulled over for tailgating on the beltline last night, and took off running when the cop asked him why he was favoring one side of his body. He ditched the pistol as he ran. He didn't get away. Cops found pot in the trunk.
Carbon Monoxide Detectors To Be Mandatory In Homes Governor Doyle is signing a bill this afternoon that will mandate carbon monoxide detectors for all single-family homes in the state by next February. The deadly odorless gas is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in the country.

New Law Protects Breast-Feeding Mothers Anyone that bothers a woman who's breast-feeding in malls or restaurants could be fined up to $200 under another law signed by the governor today. The law grants women the right to breast feed in those and other public places as well. More than 40 other states have similar laws.
Walker's First Gubernatorial Ad To Debut A second candidate for governor will start running TV ads tomorrow. Republican Scott Walker's first spot will air statewide, and Republican Mark Neumann will begin airing his third spot Friday. Democrat Tom Barrett hasn't run any yet. |
